Dear Viking Alumni, Friends, and Supporters,
Like many of our alumni board and in our alumni community, I spend a lot of time at our beloved alma matter. Recently, I was at North, and it was wonderful to see the students slowly getting back into the full swing of school. The halls were filled with Vikings learning, planning activities, and just enjoying our beloved school. It has been a long time since students were able to enjoy school with any sense of normalcy. I cannot wait until we can all again enjoy North High.
Lots of exciting things have happened since our last newsletter.
First and formost, despite the challenges of Covid, the North High School community was able to celebrate a wonderful homecoming. Homecoming week was filled with activities that ranged from Tweedledum and Tweedledee Twin Day to the community bonfire. Our very own, Bob Smith, Class of 1954, led the parade as the Grand Marshall. My favorite part of the parade was crossing Federal Boulevard at 32nd Avenue. It was clear that we blocked traffic all the way to Adams County and all the way down Federal to Lincoln High School. Our North Vikings won the homecoming football game with a final score of 56 to 0 against the Littleton High School Lions.
As Spring and Summer approach, it is our sincere hope that in-person events can be hosted. The alumni board has discussed hosting a summer event, hopefully at Lakeside. We are also eager to host the annual birthday party and awards dinner. Our hope is to actually hold a combined birthday party and awards dinner in October. We have awardees who have been anxiously but patiently waiting to receive their awards. We hope to bestow these distinctions on these extraordinary individuals soon.
In a previous issue of VIKS, we published a list of state championship teams and individual state champions who have represented our alma mater over the years. We know this list is incomplete and we are missing folks that we want to add to this list. So please feel free to send us additional names of other North High individual State Champions as well as the year and the sport in which they earned distinction. Please send these names to the Alumni Secretary, Dorolyn at her email, dorogrieb@comcast.net
I wish you all “Fair Winds and Following Seas.” Humbly, Respectfully and with Viking Pride,
Isaac S. Solano, NSHSAA President
North High School, Class of 2009
