We send a Hearty Viking “Thank You” to Dennis Gallagher on his recent retirement as City Auditor for the City and County of Denver.  Dennis has served the citizens of Denver in a variety of elective offices for forty-four years, the last twelve as City Auditor.  Dennis Gallagher’s career began as a member of the faculty of Regis University where he taught both Latin and Greek.  He decided to run for state representative in 1970 and walked his district to learn firsthand about the concerns of his constituents. He went on to serve the people of Denver for 24 years in the state legislature in the Colorado House of Representatives. He served two terms on the Denver City Council and fought for historic preservation in the rapidly changing northwest Denver. He became known as the Mayor of North Denver.

The focus of the City Auditor’s Office changed   with the charter amendment he campaigned for to allow the office to move away from bookkeeping functions to full-scale performance audits of other city agencies.  The “Denver  Model” for auditing city government has attracted national attention for its degree of independence and a high rate of compliance with the auditor’s recommendations.  David Kopel of the Independence Institute and KBDI (Channel 12) said that “Dennis Gallagher is the Greatest Auditor Denver has ever had.”
The North Side High School Alumni Association awarded the Order of Keetil the Brave two years ago to Dennis Gallagher.  We, as Vikings at North High, pay high and special honors to the Honorable Dennis Gallagher for the support he has given North High School and the North High student body over many years.   We wish him well on his retirement.

Meet Scott Wolf
North High Schools’s New Principal

Scott Wolf was named Principal of North High School in August of this year after serving as Associate Principal with Nicole Veltze.  He lives in the neighborhood and is excited about being named North High’s Principal.  Principal Wolf has noted that North High has a strong culture of academic excellence with Advanced Placement (AP), Honors and college credit classes, as well as early intervention and strong tutoring support for students who want to accelerate or for those who start falling behind in classes. North High has academic elective pathways that allow students to excel in the fields of music, visual arts, drama, technology, fitness, JROTC, and world languages. North’s scholars, staff, and families are all solidly proud to be Vikings.
